On the same day when he was off duty he came to fetch the money & I paid him 85 cents. He gave me 5 cents as change.

After that I used to pay him every day or once a week at the rate of 85 cents a day. He always gave me 5 cents a day as change.

I continued to pay him at that rate as long as the gambling house was open. He was always in plain clothes when I paid him.

I remember paying him on the 19th of the 5th moon. I paid him in a lane of Upper Station Street, a small lane between West Street & Upper Station Street. It was about 3 o'clock in the afternoon. That was the last time I paid him. I paid him 3 days' pay on that day ($2.55). Previous to that, I remember paying him on the 16th, & on the 10th, & the 3rd of the fifth moon.
